LA MIRADA, CALIF. — As higher education institutions nation wide rethink strategies in the current tumultuous economy, rising cost of education and recreating innovative programs for student retention, Biola releases its aspirations for the next five years that will position Biola as a leader in Christian higher education. After hitting the ground listening two years ago, Biola University President Barry H. Corey is taking action. Jan. 1, 2010 commences a new year with the announcement of Biola’s new university plan including four presidential directives, the largest fundraising campaign in Biola’s history and the renewing of Biola’s mission while exploring uncharted territory in higher education.
After extensive listening and conversations within the campus community and our constituents worldwide—four enduring commitments known as presidential directives arose and will guide conversations and decisions for Biola in the coming years. Those four directives surround being a Christ-centered university distinguished for upholding an integrative biblical worldview, respected for academic quality, intentional about Christ’s command to love God and to love our neighbor, doing so by preparing students to understand and serve the needs of our world, and practicing sound financial management while addressing the rising challenge of affordability.
With a new focus on urban studies and social justice, Biola is at the cutting edge of diverse learning and ministry while furthering Biola’s emphasis on cross-cultural experiences prior to graduation.
