The Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) Basketball Tournament is hosted by the Eagles this week, coming to Chase Gymnasium at Biola University for the first time ever. Biola’s hoops hope to bring more honors on the home court during the tournament, which started Feb. 27, 2010 and will continue through March 9, 2010.

The men and women’s basketball teams each completed successful regular seasons in February. The men’s team finished 26-4, good enough for the No. 2 seed in GSAC and a No. 5 national ranking in the NAIA. The team had three seniors – Danny Campbell, Marlon King and Rocky Hampton – selected for the 2009-10 All-Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball team, announced by the conference office on Tuesday. With three representatives on the 15-member all-conference team – the most representatives of any school in the conference and the highest number of Eagles on the team since Biola had four on the 2001-02 squad.

From the women’s team, Biola forward Jessilyn Conicelli was named to the 2009-10 All-Golden State Athletic Conference team for the second-straight season. The Eagles advanced to the GSAC semifinals in a 81-56 win over The Master’s College improving to 20-10 on the season, their second-straight 20-win season. The win advances them to the semifinal to face No. 1-seed Vanguard in Costa Mesa on Friday, March 5.

The GSAC semifinals are Saturday, March 6 at Chase Gymnasium. The first semifinal will pit arch-rivals Biola and Azusa Pacific at 5:30 p.m. with top-seed Concordia facing Fresno Pacific at 7:30 p.m. The winners advance to the GSAC Championship Game on Tuesday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m.
