KANSAS CITY --- Biola senior goalkeeper Aaron Fenlason has been named the final recipient of the NAIA National Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the 2011 season, as announced by the national office on Tuesday afternoon. Fenlason was named the GSAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Fenlason, a native of Rancho Bernardo, Calif., was stout in goal in a pair of Golden State Athletic Conference tournament road shutouts last week, recording a total of seven saves and facing 27 shots in the two victories.
In the 1-0 victory over Vanguard on Nov. 2, the native of Rancho Bernardo, Calif, finished with four saves in 90 minutes as he faced 14 shots overall. The blanking was only the third for Vanguard this year (in 19 matches) and the Eagles' first win at Vanguard since 2002.
He followed that up with another shutout on Nov. 5, recording three saves in a 1-0 triumph over GSAC regular-season champion Fresno Pacific in the conference tournament semifinals.
Fenlason has been instrumental in Biola's end-of-the-year run which has seen the Eagles win five-straight matches. He has allowed just two goals over that five-game stretch with one of them coming off a penalty kick. Of his eight shutouts this season, Fenlason has recorded two-straight and three his last four matches.
The Eagles (12-5-2 overall record) are looking to advance to the NAIA Tournament for the third time in program history and the second time in the last three years with a victory in the GSAC Tournament Championship match on Saturday. Biola faces off against Concordia University in the match which kicks-off at 2:00 p.m.
