Biola’s Public Relations emphasis program was honored with the Award of Excellence under the Community Relations and Institutional Programs category on Friday, June 1, at the 37th annual Orange County PROTOS awards ceremony. Carolyn Kim, professor of public relations and corporate communications, received the award for her leadership in growing the PR emphasis at Biola.
Presented by the Orange County Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America the OC Protos awards honor Orange County’s most talented PR campaigns and professionals. Kim was among those awarded for exceptional achievements.
"This has been an incredible year of growth for our program. From setting new records in membership with our PRSSA program to being nationally recognized for the agency work our students are doing, I am pleased to say that we are standing out among the PR community," said Kim. "These honors recognize that our program is training future professionals and equipping them to set new industry standards!"
Kim, who started at Biola in the fall of 2011, has played an instrumental role in elevating the PR emphasis and attracting more students to the program. In November, received a significant honor when Biola’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) ranked Biola’s student-run public relations firm 6th Street PR among what the PRSSA calls the “upper echelon” of student PR agencies throughout the nation.
Kim has worked for such clients as Chuck Colson, James Dobson, Compassion International and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She holds an M.A. in Christian apologetics and a B.A. in journalism from Biola University.
