More than 400 people ran in the “Run for Micah 6:8” 5K during Biola Weekend on Oct. 6 in support of Biola’s student Social Justice Ministry raising $11,570 for the club’s efforts to fight human trafficking and prison outreach in partnership with Chuck Colson’s Prison Fellowship ministry.

Biola President Barry H. Corey ran the race with alumna and 2012 London Olympian for Guam, Amy Atkinson.

“This was a fun to time to get to run, support Biola and this is an amazing cause,” said Atkinson. “It’s so important and what Biola stands for, that’s what, if you read the Bible, that’s what God really had a heart for, for those people who are struggling who need that mercy and also that justice. I was really excited to support that.”

The Bible verse Micah 6:8 embodied the run's focus on mercy and justice. Senior Amanda Andrews, founder of Biola's social justice ministry, and event coordinator for the run was grateful for the support from the local community, Biola students, parents and alumni who ran in the event.

"The support shown at the "Run for Micah 6:8" was incredible," said Andrews. "As I stood behind the starting line, I looked around and became overwhelmed by the strong support for the student led Social Justice Ministry. It was a great morning, and such a blessing to the Social Justice Ministry."

After the run, participants had the opportunity to meet Amy. In comparison to last year's event, 100 more people signed up to run the event. Those who ran received an event t-shirt and their admission fee went towards the Social Justice Ministry.
