Biola University Hosts 4th Annual Asian American Ministry Conference

Nov. 3, 2017 By Lori Mann

LA MIRADA, CALIF. — The 4th Annual Asian American Ministry Conference, “Upside Down,” will be held on Nov. 4, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Biola University. Sponsored by Asian American Christian Equippers (AACE) and Biola’s Talbot School of Theology, this year’s conference will focus on the essentials of ministry that are often overlooked or put on the back burner.

Ben Shin, professor of Bible exposition and director of the Asian-American ministry track for the doctor of ministry program at Talbot, helps direct the conference each year. Shin is also a faculty mentor for AACE.

"This year's theme for the 4th Annual Asian American Ministry Conference is the ‘Upside Down Conference,’” said Shin. “With this theme, we wanted to build up the local churches and ministries by bringing up often neglected and overlooked support ministries like finances, organization, children's ministries, counseling, and succession plans. Our hope is to equip the saints so that they could strengthen the different ministries and also find their niche in the church for the glory of God.”

Asian American ministry leaders are invited to attend sessions by leading speakers from the Asian American ministry community, Talbot School of Theology, Crowell School of Business at Biola University and others. The variety of topics include "Effective Bible Teaching," "Succession of Leadership," "Effective Worship Leading" and more.

Asian American Christians are one of the fastest growing groups within American Christianity. This is evident by the increase of Asian American churches and parachurch ministries throughout the country. It is important that Asian church leaders are equipped to deal with the unique and non-Western challenges within Asian American Christianity.

AACE is an online resource discussing issues within ministry to Asian Americans. The event is sponsored by the Asian American ministry cohort of the doctor of ministry program at Talbot School of Theology.
