LA MIRADA, CALIF. — The Biola community and public are invited to Biola University on Tuesday, Oct. 2 to experience a magnitude 8.0 earthquake simulation and learn earthquake safety tips before the 2018 Great California ShakeOut. Biola University will be hosting The Big Shaker — the world’s largest mobile earthquake simulator — on Biola’s campus in La Mirada, Calif. The truck will be located by Flour Fountain and will be on campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“With many of our students coming from out of the SoCal area or from other states, bringing the Big Shaker truck on campus will give these students and others a hands-on opportunity to experience what a 8.0 magnitude earthquake feels like and how to safely react by implementing the drop-cover-hold on response model,” said Biola Campus Safety Chief John Ojeisekhoba.
Biola University’s Campus Safety will host the truck on campus giving an opportunity to encounter an earthquake in a safe simulator truck to the community, local, and out of state students who may be experiencing this for the first time.
Information on what to do before, during, and after an earthquake as well as demonstrations on how to properly secure furniture and collectables will also be provided throughout the day. The Big Shaker will also be selling emergency kits.
Media are invited to attend and schedule times for interviews in or near The Big Shaker truck on Oct. 2. Contact Jenna Loumagne, manager of media relations, for interviews or more information. Parking for media vehicles will be located at 13800 Biola Ave., La Mirada, Calif. 90639 in Lot F near the Fluor Fountain. Parking will be available in the same location.
